NF F 16-101/ EN ISO 4589-2 Ambient-temperature oxygen index test

NF F 16-101/ EN ISO 4589-2 Ambient-temperature oxygen index test

1. NF F 16-101/ EN ISO 4589-2--Standard

EN ISO 4589-2: Plastics-Determination of burning behaviour by oxygen index –Part 2: Ambient-temperature test

Oxygen index

The minimum concentration of oxygen, by volume percentage, in a mixture of oxygen and nitrogen introduced at (23±2) that will just support combustion of a material under specified test conditions.

BS ISO 4589-2 is similar with GB/T 2406

2. NF F 16-101/ EN ISO 4589-2 test principle

A small test specimen is supported vertically in a mixture of oxygen and nitrogen flowing upwards through a transparent chimney. The upper end of the specimen is ignited and subsequent burning behaviour of the specimen is observed to compare the period for which burning continues, or the length of specimen burnt, with specified limits for such burning. By testing a series of specimen is different oxygen concentration, the minimum oxygen concentration is estimated.

4. NF F 16-101/ EN ISO 4589-2 requirement

This standard generally used for small-size material (final product) of the combustion properties of the test.

NF F 16-101:1988 referenced in this standard (IEC 60695-2-11) and EN ISO 4589-2 for I-level oxygen index test.

According to IEC 60695-2-11 and EN ISO 4589-2 two test results, I assess the level of oxygen that level I0-I4 five levels (I0, I1, I2, I3, I4).
