NF F 16-101/NF X 10-702: Smoke density
1.Standard -- NF X 10-702
NF X 10-702: Fire test methods-Smoke emission-Test of measurement of specific optical density of smoke by the combustion or the pyrolysis of solid materials.
The smoke density measurement taken from a material under fire conditions gives an indication of the visibility through the smoke, this is important as reduced visibility makes it more difficult to escape from a fire hence increasing the threat to human life from the toxic gases, flames and heat.
one specimen is tested in the flaming mode (25kW/m2 radiant heat with a pilot flame) and one specimen is tested in the non-flaming mode (25kW/m2 radiant heat without a pilot flame).
Two values are determined from the test results:
• ‘Ds max’ –Maximum smoke density measured during the test
• ‘VOS4’ – A measure of the rate at which the smoke developed during the tested
2. NF X 10-702 for assessing F classification (smoke density and toxicity)
According to NF X 70-100 and NF X 10-702 results of two tests to assess the toxicity of F-class level of F0-F5 smoke six levels (F0, F1, F2, F3, F4, F5)
