Does IMO ship low flame cover smoke toxicity? IMO Part 5+Part 2

IMO Part 5 Low-sowing flame test standards are developed by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) to assess the flammability of ship materials. The standard of flue gas toxicity is IMO Part 2. IMO ship low sowing flame does not cover smoke toxicity. Ship low sowing flame test is conducted according to IMO FTP Code Part 5 standard and flue gas toxicity test according to IMO FTP Code Part 2 standard. For more information about IMO ship fire prevention and smoke poison test, please consult Nanjing Smart Company +86 25-8658 3475.

IMO Part 5 flame performance test evaluation

1. Surface flammability test-If the average surface flammability value of all materials meets the values listed in Table 1 in IMO Part 5, it is deemed to meet the low-seeding flame performance requirements.(Table 1, please consult Nanjing Smart Engineer)

2. Combustion melt drop test-Materials used as bulkhead, wall, lining plate, ceiling and deck base dressing shall not produce combustion melt drops in the test, which shall be regarded as unqualified material. For the floor cover, no more than 10 burning droplets can be accepted.

IMO Part 2 Smoke toxicity test

Test method: The test time is 10 minutes, record the smoke density and each gas content. Samples were exposed to 25 and (50) K W/m2 radiant heat source for testing. The toxicity was analyzed by the seven gases: CO, HF, HCl, HCN, NOx, SO2, and HBr

IMO Part 2 Smoke density classification standard

The average (Dm) of the maximum optical density value (Ds)
1. Surface material for bulkhead, lining or ceiling, in any test condition, Dm 200
2. For deck cover material, Dm 400 in any test state
3. Material used for the floor surface, Dm 500 in any test condition
4. For plastic pipes and cables, Dm 400 in any test condition

IMO Part 2 Classification criteria for toxicity
CO     1450ppm
HF     600ppm
HCl    600ppm
HCN    140ppm
NOx    350ppm
SO2    120ppm
 HBr    600ppm
