China South Locomotive & Rolling Stock Corporation Limited（“CSR”）, is approved by the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of the State Council and co-founded by China South Locomotive and Rolling Stock Industry Group Corporation and Beijing Railway Industry Economic and Trade Company with a total equity capital of 7 billion. The company was established on December 28, 2007 with 16 wholly funded and holding companies and over 80,000 employees distributed in 10 provinces and cities around the country.
CSR’s main business range covers research and development, manufacturing, sales, refurbishment, leasing and relevant technical service, information consulting, industrial investment and management, export and import and other business in the concern of locomotives, passenger carriages, freight wagons, MUs, rapid transit vehicles and key related components as well as other businesses that utilize proprietary rolling stock technologies. According to the International Standard Industry Classification, it falls into the category of transportation equipment manufacturing industry of the machinery manufacturing industry.
CSR has a complete system of independent R&D, mass production and standard service in the concern of locomotives, passenger carriages, freight wagons, MUs, rapid transit vehicles and key related components. The company has the largest research and development and manufacturing facility for electric locomotives in China in terms of 2006 production volume, EMU manufacturing facility where the world-leading technologies are adopted to manufacture EMUs, a high-power diesel locomotive and diesel engine research and development and manufacturing facility as a leading performer in the whole industry, a high-end passenger carriage research and development and manufacture facility as a leading one in the country, a globally advanced freight wagon research and development and manufacturing base, three state-accredited enterprises of rapid transit vehicles manufacturing, and according to the newly signed contract value in 2007, the company is the biggest manufacturer of rapid transit vehicles in China. Meanwhile, with the utilization of rail transportation equipment expertise, CSR actively explores and successfully expands the market of businesses that utilize proprietary rolling stock technologies, including hybrid-powered buses, wind power generators, automobile parts, vessel engine crankshafts, diesel engines, high-power semi-conductor components, engineering machinery, etc.
CSR owns one National Engineering Research Center for Converters, one National High-speed Multiple Units Engineering Laboratory, five National State-accredited Technology Centers and four Post-doctoral Working Stations. In addition, it has also established China’s first Overseas Industry Electric and Electronic R&D Center of the rail transportation equipment manufacturing industry in America. The technical R&D and manufacturing capacity of the company has been integrated with the world advanced level in the industry.
