This Part of BS 476 describes a procedure for determining the fire resistance of loadbearing elements for building construction when subjected to the heating and pressure condition when subjected to the heating and pressure conditions specified in BS 476: Part 20. This Part provides requirements for specimen selection and/or its design and construction,loading and restraint conditions, equipment,procedures. The methods are applicable to beams,columns, floors,flat roofs and walls.

The fire resistance of the test construction shall be assessed against one or more of the criteria for loadbearing capacity, integrity and insulation, whichever are relevant to the elements used in practice
