1.1 Scope.
1.1.1* This test shall apply to upholstered furniture mock-ups.
1.1.2 Mock-up testing is used in assessing the relative resistance to continuing combustion of individual materials used in furniture, such as cover fabrics, filling materials, and welt tape, in realistic combinations and in an ideal geometric arrangement of the seat cushions, back, and arms of furniture items.
Head off fires. Measure flammability risks using the test methods for mock-up upholstered furniture in the 2009 NFPA 261.
Cigarette ignition of upholstered furniture is a major cause of life loss due to fire in the United States. The 2009 NFPA 261 Standard Method of Test for Determining Resistance of Mock-Up Upholstered Furniture Material Assemblies to Ignition by Smoldering Cigarettes provides the latest laboratory testing procedures for evaluating how resistant to ignition mock-up upholstered furniture is when exposed to smoldering cigarettes under specified conditions.
