NFPA 1989 Breathing Air Quality for Emergency Services Respiratory Protection specifies the requirements for the breathing air quality component of the respiratory protection program required by NFPA 1500 Fire Department Occupational Safety and Health Program. The critical guidance provided helps protect fire and emergency services personnel during fire fighting, rescue, hazardous materials, and special operations where respiratory hazards can or do exist. Work smart and safe. Bring your knowledge in line with important changes to the 2008 edition of NFPA 1989, including · A revised and reformatted Chapter 5 Air Quality Requirements clarifies testing criteria and adds additional text regarding synthetic breathing air. · A new Section 5.4 added special testing and procedures for suspected or actual contaminated breathing air. · Section 5.6 Breathing Air Quality Requirements added a new requirement for nitrogen content in 5.6.8, and the associated testing method was added to Chapter 6 in Section 6.8. · All of Chapter 5 Air Quality Requirements was updated for clarity and organization, and to refine the requirements. · All of Chapter 6 Test Methods was revised for specificity modifications to the test methods. · A new Chapter 7 Compressed Breathing Air Systems was added for systems that produce, purify, store, and supply breathing air for filling breathing air cylinders on supplied air respirators and SCBA. Requirements cover the installation, compressors, maintenance, and record keeping of these systems. · Annex A material was updated and expanded to provide additional advisory information regarding breathing air quality issues.
